What is Menactra Vaccine?

Menactra is a vaccine used for immunization purposes. It helps in preventing meningococcal diseases. The vaccine contains the inactivated form of the meningococcal bacteria which causes diseases like meningitis and meningococcal septicemia. It has the Neisseria meningitidis serogroups A, C, Y, and W-135 type of vaccine. Menactra vaccine can be used from the age group 9 months to 55 years of age.

The vaccine should not be self-administered. There’s an option for booster which can be given from the ages 15 years to 55 years of age. It is administered through the intramuscular route only.

What is Menactra Vaccine Schedule?

• For babies aged 9–23 months: Two doses are given.
  • First dose is at 9 months.
  • Second dose is at 12 months.
• For ages 2–55 years: A single dose is recommended.
